To Our SMC Faithful,

Grace and peace to each of you. What a wonderful welcome last Sunday for Pastor Ross and his family.  We had 310 faithful members attending another milestone in our church’s history.  Some of you may have also noted our new altar cross, candle sticks, offering plates, altar adornments, linens, and pulpit last week.  All of these were provided by SMC families who saw a need and donated their time, resources, and talents to meet that need.  This type of generosity and love has been a hallmark of our congregation from the beginning!  Thanks to all of you.

Last week nine SMC members showed up at the Seventh Day Adventist Church to assemble over 150 chairs within a two-hour time period.  Their efforts were on display Sunday with the new blue chairs in the worship space.

The Children’s Ministry event last Sunday afternoon was fantastic. Robyn and Dana Schmieding hosted a wonderful event with over 39 children attending, helped by numerous “sous chefs”, and of course our tuxedo clad waiters!  We are looking forward to seeing what Robyn and Dana will “cook up” next!

Our meeting with Seventh Day Adventist Church Pastor Nick on 12 Feb was fruitful.  We will be able to use additional space to accommodate our growing Sunday School needs starting 2 March 25.

This will be another exciting week as we will have our welcome party for Pastor Ross and his family on Friday. See below for details.

Standing Committee on Governance

Last Thursday evening, a meeting of 19 SMC members met to discuss how SMC should move forward with the preparation, review, and approval of our governing documents. These would include the Church Constitution, By-Laws, and “The Method”. The Method will include our theological foundation, doctrinal standards, organization, and rules.

The meeting had two outcomes. First, it was clear from the attending members that the SMC governing documents should be clear and concise – a simple description of our beliefs and the methods we use to remain Christ Centered, Holiness Oriented, and Justified by Dynamic Faith . The attendees also resolved that SMC should create a “Standing Committee on Governance”, which would prepare and review our governing documents and when ready, submit them to the congregation for approval.

Following next Sunday’s Service, a brief congregation meeting will  occur where a motion will be presented to create the “Standing Committee on Governance.” Should you have questions on the Standing Committee please contact James Chellis, Arthur DeHay, or Chris Glaze.

Remember, we are a laity driven church and those who would like to serve are encouraged to contact Chris Glaze at 843-327-1449.
